Broomcraft Weekend: Exploring Whisks - February 8 & 9

Kickstart your broom-making journey with this immersive weekend of virtual workshops! Join me at 10am pacific time on Zoom February 8 & 9 for a whisk making whirlwind. Across three engaging sessions, you’ll explore the art of crafting a Turkey Wing and Hawk Tail Simple Whisks, as well as Braided Rooster Tail & Stitched Whisks—essential styles for skill building and creating a varied collection.
In this hands-on workshop series, you’ll practice traditional broom-making techniques like weaving, foot-brake tension winding, and intricate weaving, while diving into the history and versatility of each broom type. Whether you’re just starting out or expanding your skills, this weekend is the perfect way to begin creating your own handcrafted set of household essentials.
What’s Included:
Every workshop includes broom-making kits, shipped to you in advance, as well as access to pre-recorded demo videos to watch or re-watch at your convenience!
Each kit will contain your choice of natural or black broomcorn, or a mix of both (which will arrive as half black and half natural to use as you like) and a colored twine of your choice (you will use one combination for all 4 whisks), as well as a stitching clamp and a stitching needle.
Turkey Wing Simple Whisk: We will be making a “naked” Turkey Wing style whisk that follows an asymmetrical pattern.
Hawk Tail Simple Whisk: This i similar to the Turkey Wing, with a symmetrical pattern of crafting.
Braided Rooster Tail: This class will demonstrate the method for creating the “braided” effect of the broomcorn.
Stitched Whisks: Complete the set with a hand whisk that is perfect for the countertop, the dustpan, and anywhere in between!
